Pauline Plutt

Born August 4, 1914

Pauline was born to George and Annie Leash.  She was one of 6 children, of which all have passed.  Her love of music came from her Father who had the Leash's Snycopated Society Orchestra, which traveled all over, spreading the Big Band Sound.  Pauline loved music but did not like practice as a child so she never really accomplished an instrument.  But, music maybe did not come out of her fingers with an instrument but certainly did come out of her toes with dancing.  She absolutely loved to dance. As a young lady she gave dance instruction and for payment received free tickets to the Valencia Ballroom, here in York, PA.  She met such people as Guy Lombardo and Ted Williams.  The Valencia became her second home.

She met the love of her life at the Valencia, his name was George, also known as Haps.  The life they had of music and dance was a dream come true.  She didn't get to be with Haps as long as she would have wanted for he passed away at the age of 51.

As a young woman she was honored to attend the Elizabeth Arden School of Cosmetology.  She made many trips to New York City.  She was a representative for Elizabeth Arden at Weist Department Store in York, PA until she retired.  She is a true historian about York, PA.  She was raised here, worked here and lived here all her life. She remembers the "big" sugar cakes from Bear's Department Store, the window decorations at the holidays, The Bon-Ton Tea Room, the talking parrot at Weist Store, and she ate lunch everyday at the green marble counters at People's Drug Store on the square.

The sparkle of Pauline's eyes and the movement of her hands as she listens to music will always be remembered.  Her legs may not be able to move with the music but her heart certainly does.

Thank you Pauline for adding such a "SPARKLE" to all the lives you touch....
